 Stainless Steel Exhaust System

The exhaust system on my Morini has gone through a number of changes. When I first got the bike it had the original seamed Lanfraconis, which in my opinion (Is that the sounds of a noose being tied) were the ugliest of silencers that were fitted to quite a number of Italian machines of the era. They were already starting to rust at the bottoms, so after about four years they gave up the ghost having been repaired a couple of times. I then fitted some reverse cone megaphones that were in the shed from some previous machine, they were short and empty, Perfect! They made a pleasant noise, didn't need rejetting which surprised me and ran fine for another few years. I was considering what to replace them with when I was knocked off the bike by a blind driver doing a U-turn. So while sorting out the claim (I wrote my own estimate as I had the price and parts lists and put the claim through my friends bike shop-thanks John) I accidentally (honest!) put the part numbers morini stainless silencers for a pair of Stainless Silencers from NLM, they were actually only about £10 dearer than the replacement lanfraconis. By the way when the insurance assessor turned up to inspect the bike he hadn't a clue what a Morini was and was very confused as it wasn't in his Glass's Guide (The Trade Bible).

I already had a pair of stainless down pipes that had come with the bike when view of right hand silencer in situ I bought it, but only the rear one was fitted. The rear one caused me a problem when the nut that had been welded on to hold the heatshield on came of causing the loss of my original heatshield, I ended up having to get a 2nd hand one and get it re-chromed as they were unobtainable. I think they were made by Armours, they were not the greatest fit and I had some trouble getting the balance pipe to fit, but eventually they went on. Reusing the original mounting plates for the silencers allowed them to be fitted with a bit of a kick up to

them which I think looks a lot better than the originals especially as they have no seams.

The quality of the silencers seems to be good; they have been fitted for about view of left hand silencer in situ 18 months and have stood up to the weather and salt well. When I first started the bike up after fitting them I was amazed at how loud they were, considering I had been running open megas for a while these were a lot louder, a great roar which I really like, but definitely enough to upset some people. They also required rejetting by quite a fair amount, but on finally getting them set up well they allowed the bike to run better and pick up a lot cleaner.
